JYM Theatre Co. is Australia's only Jewish musical theatre company.
JYM Theatre Co. prides itself on producing exceptional musical theatre and has built a reputation on nurturing and developing talent and highly valuing our cast, crew and supporters. We are committed to high-quality, inclusive productions which provide a creative outlet for the community and beyond.
JYM was formed to fill a void in the Melbourne Jewish theatre scene. Since our first production, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2002), JYM has provided an outlet, both on stage and behind the scenes, for those passionate about the arts to become involved in an exciting and developing young company. JYM provides the opportunity for people to get involved in all aspects of musical theatre production. It's all about creativity, teamwork, friendship and fun.
Twelve years later, JYM has established a strong reputation for theatre excellence and the company continues to grow from strength to strength. JYM productions stand proudly alongside other premier amateur music theatre companies in Victoria's burgeoning amateur musical theatre scene. Indeed, the last two JYM musicals, Avenue Q and The Producers have between them received no less than ten nominations and commendations at the Victorian Music Theatre Guild Awards.
JYM is a unique company that believes the process of putting together a production is just as important as the final outcome. Over the years, hundreds of people have been involved with JYM productions as cast, crew or production team members, and over 10,000 people have seen a JYM show. Many of our cast and crew have been with us for a number of years and have developed great friendships and valuable professional contacts.
Our past productions include Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2002), Fame (2003), Little Shop of Horrors (2006), Hair (2007), Sweet Charity (2008), Cabaret (2009), The Witches of Eastwick (2010), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2011), Avenue Q (2012), Chaim's Love Song (2012), and The Producers (2013).
As a not-for-profit musical theatre company, we rely on the support of local businesses and the community to fund aspects of our productions.
